I’m a (Kind-Of) Sponsored Athlete!

Today I became a kind-of, quasi, pseudo, fake it ’till you make it, sponsored athlete.  This news actually came in two parts, the first f which mostly came last night.  As you hopefully know by now, I’ve promised to run the BAA 5K in a running skirt to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation (see my previous posting for more details on that).  I wrote to a number of companies to seek a donation of a skirt for the cause.  Two of them, Marathon Sports (http://www.marathonsports.com/) and Brooks Running have combined forces to respond to the call in a huge way.  At first I was informed that Brooks would, through Marathon Sports, be donating not only one of their skirts, but a top as well.  In and of itself this would have been great, but the rep also mentioned getting me into Brooks shoes, which I’ve never worn.  I followed up on this little note and went into the store today to try on a pair of the new Brooks Green Silence racing flats (http://www.brooksrunning.com/product/1000161D/123199/Green%20Silence) which are simply incredible to wear.  I wasn’t holding out much hope, but ended up leaving the store with these:

WOW!  Awesome!  I was a on a high for the rest of the day until I got an e-mail from Brooks informing me that I was now a member of the Brooks ID Team.  Being part of the team means I get to run in a Brooks uniform and get some pretty good discounts on Brooks gear too.  It looks like I’ll have gone from owning a single pair of Brooks gloves to being fully kitted out in the stuff!

So, ok, I’m not really sponsored, but it’s about as close as I’ll ever get, and that’s good enough for me!

Happy trails (and run happy!)!
